What do we leave behind? Stone in Your Name is about the ordinary evidence of a life shared with someone. Boots beside the door. A ring of tea and ash left on an old table. A wedding sash above the hearth. A worn map folded inside a shirt. None of these things seem important while someone is still with us. Then one day, they become everything. At the center of the song is a simple request: Keep my name on the stone. Not because the person speaking is afraid of dying, but because they want something of their life and their love to remain. I was here. I was yours. But the final words change the meaning of that request. “Keep my name And go on. Keep my name Carry on.” Remember me. Carry what was true. But keep living. Perhaps that's one of the greatest things we can eventually ask of someone we love.
